What is this test?

When it comes to your heart health, there are a few markers which can help tell you if you’re in reasonable health. We believe this small set of markers gives you this. You will learn your levels of fats in your blood (cholesterol and triglycerides) which play a fundamental role in the development of cardiovascular (heart) disease. There are both good and bad types of cholesterol and this test will inform you how you are doing on this measure. Through your diet you can alter this balance.

HbA1c is a sensitive marker for diabetes and elevated sugar levels are a key cause of cardiovascular disease. Knowing whether you have or are at risk of diabetes is essential in controlling you heart disease risks. HS CRP (high sensitive CRP) is a useful marker for inflammation and has a close association with the risk of heart disease. Vitamin D is increasingly felt to have a role in heart disease along with immunity and bone health. Often it is low and easily corrected with supplement. Remember that none of these markers will necessarily give you any symptoms.

Who is this test for?

Test recommended for:

Anyone seeking to proactively assess and manage their heart health. It is especially valuable for those interested in understanding and reducing their risk of cardiovascular disease, making informed dietary and lifestyle choices, and ensuring their heart remains in good health, even if they don't exhibit symptoms.

Test not recommended for:

Anyone who is experiencing chest pains. We suggest that anyone with a first-degree relative (parents/siblings) who has had heart disease under the age of 55 be reviewed by an appropriate healthcare professional as there can be underlying genetic factors.

Useful Information:

Several factors can contribute to an increase in cholesterol levels, including lifestyle choices such as eating an unhealthy diet high in saturated fats, leading a sedentary lifestyle and smoking. Other causes may include age, family history and certain medical conditions. Importantly, some medications may contribute to high cholesterol levels.
